The Rangely Oil Gathering project is designed to optimize two separate oil and water pipeline networks to one gathering network across an oil field with 400 wells. As part of the project, three phase separators at each of the 27 collection stations were converted to two phase separators and used to measure the combined oil and water slurries. Typical water cut is approximately 95%. Pump skids with vortex meters were installed on the liquid leg discharge of the two phase separators, which increased the pressure to match the receiving pipeline pressures. The slurry is then piped back to a central gathering location where the oil and water are separated.
